The Pignese, one of the oldest restaurants in Liguria,
is situated in the ancient fishing village close at
the old port, in the typical fishermen's square, the
square of Piazza Bresca and Sardi, where every night
you can watch the fish auction feature , among orange
trees and gazebo.
The ancient name derives from the first owner, from
the old part of town called "Pigna" and stronghold
of the citizens of San Remo in defense of Saracen raids
of previous centuries.
The restaurant soon
became a meeting point of the teamsters from the inland,
bringing their products to the British and Russian aristocratic
families who used to spend the winter in mild climate
of the Riviera.
In 1919, returned from the war, the founder of the Ventimiglia,
James, took over the tavern, which has since remained
in the same family.
His
son Mario has continued the tradition with its commitments
while dividing sports football (Juventus and Sampdoria)
and coach.
Currently the
third generation has its representative in Mark, however,
not forgetting the role of absolute importance of women
and their family recipes that make the cuisine of Liguria
and the same review of the uniqueness of its dishes.
